Post and ring

A Sydneysider can’t start posting observations on cycling in Toronto without a simple object uppermost in their minds - The city’s seemingly ubiquitious and iconic post and ring bike stands. If there is one piece of infrastructure I would love to see in Sydney it’s this.
All it takes is a request to the city’s Pedestrian and Cycling Infrastructure Unit from an interested party and the post and ring can be scheduled to be installed.
To be here is to see how widespread this really is. Sure, from a Torontonian’s point of view more needs to be done (with only some 15,000 units available to serve an estimated 300,000 cyclists in this city) but what is there is inspiring to this cycling infrastructure starved antipodean interloper.
It’s important for Sydney to learn a few new tricks from well established examples - this is where I’d like to start the process of turning our city into a cycling transport leader. If we build it, they will come.
