Interbike blog
Posted June 26th, 2006 in Industry, Meta
The bicycle industry supershow Interbike has launched a blog called the Interbike Times. Thankfully I don’t have to write on the meta blogging possibilities about this because Go Clipless has already posted a lengthy summation on this terrific development and the possible implications for bicycle blogging as media. He’s got a few ideas.
One thought I have is that the author can engage the blogosphere further during the show and post up links to blogs and other news sites that are covering Interbike. The InterbikeTimes would serve as the aggregator of Interbike news and information and would be the definitive place to get started on your online Interbike journey.
Of course, this is an interesting development from the Australian Industry’s point of view and our nascent bicycle blogging community. Given that so much of what we do in our industry takes the lead from the American perspective lets hope that our show has a go at creating some viral excitement for the industry here. I can think of a few good bloggers who would not only look stylish and attractive with a media pass hanging from their necks, but would do a bang up job of extending media coverage of the event.

What others have to say…
How did you know I was thinking of you? And Treadly too.
I’m still debating about coming down to Melbourne for the trade day.

Phillip, thank you for the kind posting about our new blog. We’re working feverishly to provide more content.
As for its “meta blogging possibilities”, we hope to really extend Interbike’s contribution to the bike industry/community through the blog. We have a unique position in the industry and hope to take advantage of that in many ways as the blog develops.
I’ve been following your blog for some time now, and hope that we can live up to the standard set by the many great bike blogs like yours that have been out there for some time.
Thanks for commenting and reading Rich. Yes, Interbikes leadership position is something that can be exploited in a whole host of ways.
It’s great that these new technologies give you (us?) the potential to extend your reach and influence, and it’s great to see you embracing them.
Hopefully others in the industry will take your lead in adding their voices to the conversation which will only help in lifting and growing the industry in ways not yet imagined.
Wow, this is really cool dialog and I really applaud Rich for joining the conversation. That’s really awesome.
I’m planning to go share a few stories on the blog, since I feel a real obligation to as one of the few US industry geeks who blogs.
My major goal for this year is to blog live from the booth, posting updates and pictures as well as a few podcasts- maybe even some YouTube video as well. We’ll have to see if the wifi will reach to the expo floor! (Any thoughts Rich?)
Tim, the WIFI that we provide at Interbikei reaches the whole floor of the show. Blog and cast away! There might be some limitations as far as video streaming goes based on the bandwidth that it requires, but uploading a video file shouldn’t be a problem. Stay tuned for some potential cool developments in the video and media departments at Interbike 2006 that we’ve been working on…
Sweet!
Phil… you HAVE to get over here this year!
Tim, you have no idea how much I’d love to, but I blew the budget on two airfares to Canada in May and in the process used up my annual holidays.
I was actually planning to do Vegas before I decided on visiting the family in Canada.
I should mention that my iBook (on which I usually do all my blogging) just carked it, which means that it’s now the perfect opportunity to buy a new Intel MacBook.
Interbike, Macbook, Interbike, MacBook hmmmmmmm, what to do?
MacBook!
Dell laptops are pretty cheap at the moment.. You could go PC and to Interbike
What’s PC? Does not compute.

Have already had a presence at the Bicycling Australia Shows, two years ago our BUG organised a stall & this year we’re planning on ‘extending’ the theme. More later.
