A day in the life

A guy walks into the shop and says he wants one of these.
Phil: “Great, let’s wrap it up!”
Punter: “Hang on I need a few modifications. I don’t want the wheels, I like these.”
Phil: “Ok, I’ll have to work out the price difference. Anything else?”
Punter: “I don’t want those bullhorns, I want these.”
Phil: “Why?”
Punter: “Because I want to use my old rapidfire MTB shifters and those bullhorns with aero bars don’t have the room to fit them.”
Phil: “!?!?!?!?”
Phil: “Say again?”
Punter: “Because I want to use my old rapidfire MTB shifters and those bullhorns don’t have the room to fit them.”
Phil: “Why would you want to do that?”
Punter: “Because I want the bike to be like my old flat bar road bike - but I want aero bars without the bar end shifters because I like rapidfire shifters, and I’d also like the brake levers at the ends of the bull horns.”
Phil: “!?!?!?!?”
Phil: “I’m sorry, I’m not following you. You want to use this as a flat bar road bike?”
Punter: “Yes.”
Phil: “!?!?!?!?”
Phil: “But this is a TT bike.”
Punter: “I know.”
Phil: !?!?!?!?
Punter: “Can you do it.”
Phil: “It not a matter of can, it’s a matter of will.”
Punter: “Well?”
Phil: “No, sorry.”
Punter: “Why not.”
Phil: ………….thinking. “This guy has to be pulling my leg.”
Phil: “Look dude, the bike is designed for a particular kind of riding, the angles don’t suit the kind of riding you’re doing and it’s totally unsuitable as far as general handling is concerned. I don’t think it’s a safe setup.”
Punter: “Oh? I hadn’t thought of that.”
Phil: “I didn’t think so.”
Punter: “Ok, never mind, I have to think of something else.”
Phil: ………….thinking. “Please don’t.”
Punter: “Ok, see ya.”
