Five things
Posted December 13th, 2006 in The Desk
Cycling’s famous internet raconteur and marketing machine, Tim Jackson of Masi Guy has tagged me for five. That is five things you may not know about this blogger. Here are a few that are legal and family friendly.
1) I know which end of a tennis racket is up because I made a living teaching tennis for over a decade. With a bit of practice I can string a tennis racket in 15 minutes. My very first racket was a hand me down Dunlop Maxply. I was once sponsored by Adidas and Prince.
2) I once sold Robin Williams some cycling gear, but then again who hasn’t. Bonus celebrities I’ve met through the bike game who I really enjoyed meeting, Billy Connolly, Hugo Weaving and Arjun Rampal. Want an extra six degrees of Kevin Bacon? This is my cousin Marc.
3) While a boy and living in the wilds of Guyana, South America I once caught a Pirahana and a Cayman alligator with a home made fishing rod (not at the same time). I fed the Pirahana to the cat and ran away from the Gator when it’s beady hungry eyes slowly rose above the waterline as I pulled it in.
4) I’ve done around 60 Triathlons, including one Ironman. I was sick and misguided at the time and now try to erase this sordid period from my past.
5) I love India. There are probably 500 Bollywood and Indian classical songs on my iPod, with arrangements combining Sarod and Tabla particularly enjoyable. I usually see about a dozen Indian films every year, the most recent being Lage Raho Munna Bhai starring my favourite Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt who is now out on bail for involvement in the 1993 Mumbai bombings.
Bonus thought for the day. The movies and life in general have six degrees of Kevin Bacon, I’m thinking we should have one for cycling called six degrees of Tim Jackson. Seriously, is there anyone in our sport not connected to him by at least a couple of degrees?
Who do I tag? Damian and Timboy might want to give it a go.
technorati tags: cycling, bicycles, five, things, masiguy
What others have to say…

I have risen to the challenge.

Don’t know whether that makes me vainer than Damian, underemployed or both.
sigh

Six degrees of Tim Jackson — I like that idea!
How many degrees separates Masiguy from Lance Armstrong? Since Masi has ridden with Floyd Landis, that’s two degrees.
From Lance, it’s no more than one or two degrees to just about any other cyclist in the pro ranks, right?
I really need to make a trip down to San Diego sometime.

Tim’s also connected in the world of marketing, interviewed by the New York Times… what’s next, White House inauguration ceremony? His mug on a Sock Guy sock?

[…] It started out as a blog filler which has now taken on a life of it’s own, became a very funny sendup by Tim Grahl, then added to with this lovely family effort by Fritz, so how could I resist doing one of my own since I’m only one degree removed from Tim Jackson? […]

Oops- forgot to tag other people- shows what a self centred person I am!
I’ll have to pass it on to Cam and Pat, who’ve started contributing to the blog.

You give me way too much credit- far more than I deserve… that’s for sure.
Tennis? Hmm… that’s cool.
Triathlons? Dear Lord say you’ll never do another one.
Bollywood? Never saw that coming, but it’s pretty cool.
Thanks for playing along.
