Wanker of the week: David Penberthy
Posted March 5th, 2007 in The Desk
Winners are grinners, and the losers please themselves. The man responsible for making stuff up, passing off opinion as news, and yellow journalist, David Penberthy, The Daily Telegraph’s editor, is this weeks self pleasurer.
The below quote is in response to a quesion put to the Telegraph by Media Watch on their lack of media decorum and relates back to it’s beatup of November’s Critical Mass ride, the publishing of Mark Robinson’s Moz’ mobile number and the subsequent adjudication against the rag by the Press Council.
A definite yes. These selfish ratbags stop people getting home to see their families, picking up their kids from childcare, meeting their friends – and they do it habitually on a Friday night in peakhour traffic with the absurd assistance of the NSW Police. Given the disruption they cause it seemed only fair that we published the organiser’s number so that our readers could tell him what they think. After all, he is the public liaison officer. What better way to hear from the public.

I’m not sure if his reply is news or opinion. Somebody help me here.
Wheels of Justice has a proper response to Penberthy and the Telegraph’s nonsense.

What others have to say…
I have never been a supporter of the Critical Mass demonstration as I believe they make me a target of the mindless minority. Having said that I cannot understand how a newspaper can print such things. If the same comments were made about a Race or Sexual orientation rally there would be charges laid for vilification. Are other bicycle groups involving themselves, as I don’t think this can be left unchallenged. Sorry Phil
If Mr Penberthy really believes that, as the editor of a major daily newspaper he should print his own mobile number. I mean, what better way to hear from the public?
Hmm, just checked and it doesn’t appear on their contact page. I am surprised.
What a dipstick.
Ta Simon, the things your forget/miss etc, etc…….
It’s all a part of the game Jamie, let it be said that News Ltd has little time for protesters of all stripes, it’s just their little hangup, it ain’t mine,
I should say that CM could never make you a target, only motorists can, and the CM ride is now so established as to be a part of the furniture. It’s time for cyclists of other stripes to move on from that view.
Anyway, I wouldn’t worry so much about it, many of those on the ride said that the drivers were mostly relaxed about the whole thing.
Remember, we’re winning……..really……

Excuse the cross ports, but this appears to be somewhat related

They didn’t publish Mark Robinson’s phone number. It was Moz’s number.
