Indulging a space-impractical passion

Bikes in tight spaces

I really enjoy living in a small apartment and the challenges that go along with it; every decorating decision is a balancing act of aesthetics, practicality, efficiency and budget concerns. Lots of my furniture is multi-purpose, and nothing is tempting for my cat to scratch up.

Also, my home demonstrates that you can indulge the most space-impractical passion (in my case, vintage track bikes – I have four of them!) in a small apartment and it needn’t feel cramped or haphazard. I made my place as bright and colorful as I could to counteract our gray Seattle winters.

I found this at Apartment Therapy which held a contest for the smallest, coolest apartment of 2007, of course Gene’s Dynamic Bike Den caught my eye. Bikes and the style of living that comes with a renewed urbanism is a logical response to any number of issues; from built space to environmentalism.
