Paul Pottinger decides that cyclists drive motorists to the 10th circle of hell.
IF Dante was to be reincarnated in Sydney today, he’d add another chapter to his Inferno based purely on his first exposure to the traffic in this Godforsaken metropolis.
There’s no shortage of torments to choose from in this 10th circle of hell - […]

Le Tour naturelle finally ends.
It’s rather a shame that the Tour’s ‘clean’ riders, or ‘lanternes naturelles’ as the fans call them, receive so little attention, for their monumental achievement,” said cycling commentator Phil Liggett, reporting on the non-doping riders’ finish for Versus-2, the little-sister network to Versus, who carried the main Tour de France coverage. […]

Like just about everyone else on the planet I’m on Facebook, and it’s proven to be a good way to keep in touch with a small circle of friends, join some amusing and interesting groups like America Deserves Kyle Sandilands and We Want Funky Little Pubs in Sydney, and play around with some interesting applications. Right now the Australian horse racing industry is in lockdown mode because of a serious case of Equine Flu.
It’s a devastating thing to happen, for the thoroughbreds and to an industry that not only contributes hundreds of millions of dollars of economy and employment to Australia, but a rich cultural thread that is woven […]

Cyclist robs service station
A balaclava-clad man has robbed a north Queensland petrol station at knifepoint before escaping on a pushbike. Police said the man entered the Mobile service station on Sheridan Street, North Cairns, about 7.30pm (AEST) yesterday. He threatened the 47-year-old attendant with a knife and demanded money. He fled with cash on foot […]

Cadel Evans was interviewed on Enough Rope last night, but unfortunately the segment (video or transcript) isn’t online yet so here is a small grab. You can also read a bit about it in the Cyclingnews daily news wrap (third item).
The interview was done via Satellite so it was strangely disjointed. And while Denton is […]

The static cyclist.
A Tasmanian man has battled fatigue, aching limbs and blisters on his bottom to smash the world static cycling record.
Eddy Kontelj passed the previous record of 111 hours, 11 minutes and 11 seconds at 3.12pm in Burnie yesterday and is expected to keep on cycling until at least today to create a […]

Alan Durning at Grist has posted a terrific piece on cycling simultaneously being framed as something shameful to do in our car dominated world or something for elite inner inner city types.
To be a successful adult, apparently, you have to drive. Cycling is for children; cycling is for losers. In this view, it’s fitting […]
